On February 7, 2023 the plaintiff Gabriel Bélanger of Origami Extractions Inc., filed with the lawyers of Groupe SGF an application for authorization of a class action against the big Canadian banks.
Indeed, it is common knowledge in the cannabis industry that the big banks refuse any form of financing and even refuse the opening of current bank accounts in addition to refusing certain operations, in particular international operations which are completely legal.
Therefore, the plaintiff wishes to have the harm suffered by all natural or legal persons (companies) who have suffered any kind of discrimination due to their involvement in the legal cannabis industry recognized.
This class action targets all individuals and businesses that, directly or indirectly, are involved in the legal cannabis industry, including licensed producers, distributors of fertilizers, fertilizers or distributors of cultivation equipment that experienced any difficulties with the Canadian banks concerned.
The class action targets National Bank, Bank of Montreal, TD Bank, Royal Bank, CIBC and Desjardins Group.
